UAE cybercrime cops list do's and don'ts to protect kids from cybercrime

Authorities have called on parents to be extra vigilant to cybercriminals targetting kids as students spend more time on the Internet these days.

The fresh warning comes as children get back to e-learning mode on Wednesday after the Eid break.

“Internet has become an indispensable part of our lives. It provides children with information and opportunities to learn new things. However, children need to be protected against Internet threats,” the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police said.

Police asked parents to monitor children’s behaviour and teach them ways to protect their data and privacy while using online platforms.

“Children should be taught not to share or publish any personal information, data or photos that may be misused. Make sure to specify the amount of time for internet use. This will help children not become addicted to internet and modern technologies,” police said.

They should also be reminded not to save important data or files on phones or devices.

“They should not open any suspicious or unknown website links. Devices must be protected using anti-virus software. No passwords should be shared with anyone.”

For any issues and concerns, residents may contact the toll-free number 8002626 (AMAN2626); send text messages to 2828); or e-mail aman@adpolice.gov.ae. They can also download the smart application of the General Command of the Police Abu Dhabi.
